GEMİLER ISLAND
There are churches, chapels and civil building ruins of the Byzantine period, constructed between 5-11th centuries AD on island reached via boats from Oludeniz (Blue Lagoon) or Gemiler Bay.

It is important as its one of the centers from where Christianity was initially spread. The island is also know as St. Nicolas, and is on of the areas visited on the Blue Cruise route.

How to get there: Daily boat trips leave Oludeniz every morning at 11.00 AM.


ARAXA
Founded on the ancient Xanthos river, it is 40 km. away from Fethiye. This extraordinary Water spring is referred to in mythology. Rampart ruins, Turkish baths and a Byzantine aqueduct remain from the city, and these are found in the environs of the modern day village of Ören.

How to get there: Hire a car or take a bus from Fethiye Bus Station.


THELMESSOS ANTHIC THEATRE

Ancient texts mention that there was a huge theater at Telmessos. In 1993, during excavations performed by Fethiye Museum, seating in the theater was found under 3-4 meters of soil and debris.

As a result of studies continued until 1995, all the ruins existing from the original theater can be seen today. It is understood that it was constructed in the early Roman period, and repaired in the 11th century BC and had a capacity for seating 5000 people. It was used as an arena during the Byzantine period.

A project to repair the Telmessos Theater, for use with a capacity of 1500 people, has been completed and concerts are frequently held there during the summer months.

How to get there: Take a dolmus to Fethiye and walk towards to harbour.


CADIANDA

It is near the village of Üzümlü 25 km. away from Fethiye and said to be the last city to join the Lycian Federal Union.

It has a very unusual situation high in the mountains above Üzümlü and although natural conditions have taken their toll on the city you can clearly see its Theater, Agora, Stadium and Hamam complex, revealed after excavations performed by Fethiye Museum.


LETOON
It was a sanctuary and cult center of the Lycian Federal Union, 55 km a way from Fethiye. 3 temples can be seen devoted to Goddess Leto, Goddess Artemis and God Apollo. Churches of early Christianity can also be seen in Letoon and archeological excavations are still continuing from 1962.
